About Me
Hey there! I'm Jack, and yeah, I spend way too much time thinking about how devices talk to each other.
My obsession started about eight years ago, when I tried connecting a smart thermostat to my home network and the whole thing went sideways. Spent three hours troubleshooting why my phone couldn't find the device over Wi-Fi, only to discover I'd been standing too far from the router. Real genius moment, right? But that frustration sparked something. I wanted to understand why some connections work flawlessly while others make you want to throw your gadgets out the window.
These days I write about connectivity protocols because somebody needs to explain this stuff without putting people to sleep. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular networks, NFC, Zigbee, Z-Wave, LoRa - they all have their quirks and strengths. I love digging into the technical details and then figuring out how to explain them so they actually make sense. No jargon dumping, no treating readers like they need a PhD to understand why their smart bulb won't pair.
The goal here is pretty straightforward: help tech enthusiasts grasp how these protocols work and when to use each one. I'm not selling anything or pushing products. Just sharing what I've learned from years of tinkering, breaking things, fixing them again, and occasionally succeeding on the first try (rare but it happens).
When I'm not writing or messing around with IoT devices, I'm usually taking Cherry - my two-year-old Collie - for walks around the neighborhood. She's got more energy than any creature should legally possess and zero interest in technology, which is probably healthy. Sometimes the best debugging happens when you step away from the keyboard and let your brain reset. Cherry's pretty good at forcing those breaks.
I started this site because I kept answering the same questions from friends who were trying to set up smart homes or IoT projects. Figured I might as well put everything in one place instead of sending the same explanations over Slack for the hundredth time. Plus, writing helps me organize my thoughts and forces me to really understand the material instead of just skimming the surface.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you find something useful here, and feel free to reach out if you've got questions or just want to talk about connectivity tech!
